Microneedling Bournemouth
Looking in the mirror and seeing acne scars that won’t budge gets old fast. Maybe you’ve noticed fine lines creeping in, or your skin texture just isn’t what it used to be. I hear these concerns almost daily at my Bournemouth clinic.
Microneedling creates controlled microchannels that kickstart your body’s natural healing response. Your skin produces fresh collagen and elastin, which means the improvements come from within rather than temporarily masking problems on the surface.
At QiYo Acupuncture & Wellness Spa, I combine this proven treatment with my background in Traditional Chinese Medicine to address both the visible symptoms and what’s causing them.
How Microneedling Works
Microneedling is a non-invasive procedure designed to boost collagen production and improve skin texture. Using a specialised device with ultra-fine needles, this treatment creates microchannels in the skin, stimulating natural healing and enhancing the absorption of active ingredients.
Your body responds to these tiny controlled injuries by producing fresh collagen and elastin. This natural healing process is what gives you smoother, firmer skin over time.
Benefits of Microneedling
Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: The collagen boost plumps your skin from within, smoothing out lines around your eyes, mouth, and forehead.
Improves Skin Texture and Elasticity: Your skin becomes firmer and more supple as new collagen develops. Rough patches smooth out and your overall skin quality improves.
Minimises Acne Scars and Pigmentation: Those pitted scars from past breakouts soften as new skin tissue fills them in. Dark spots and uneven pigmentation fade as healthy skin cells replace damaged ones.
Shrinks Pores and Enhances Skin Tone: As your skin tightens during healing, pores appear smaller. Your overall complexion becomes more even and radiant.
Stimulates Collagen for a Youthful Glow: The ongoing collagen production continues for months after treatment, giving you that fresh, youthful appearance.
My Microneedling Process
Before your appointment, avoid retinoids and strong acids for about a week. Your skin needs to be clean and makeup-free on treatment day.
I apply a topical numbing cream first because your comfort matters. After 20-30 minutes, once the area is numb, I cleanse your skin and begin the microneedling Bournemouth treatment.
The device adjusts to different needle depths depending on the area and your skin concerns. Thicker skin on your cheeks can handle deeper penetration than the delicate area around your eyes.
During treatment, I apply hydrating serums. The microchannels let these active ingredients penetrate much deeper than usual. Your skin absorbs beneficial ingredients at its most receptive state.
The actual microneedling takes 30-45 minutes depending on the treatment area. Afterwards, your skin will look pink and feel slightly tight, similar to mild sunburn. This settles within 24-48 hours.
Aftercare for Best Results
Your skin needs gentle care following treatment. For 48 hours, skip the gym, hot showers, and alcohol-based products. Your skin is repairing itself and doesn’t need extra stress.
Keep your skin hydrated with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser. I’ll recommend specific products during your consultation based on your skin type.
Sun protection is non-negotiable. Your skin is more vulnerable to UV damage for at least a week after microneedling, so wear SPF 30 or higher whenever you’re outside, even on cloudy Bournemouth days.
Most people see improvements after the first session, but microneedling works best as a series. For acne scarring, I typically recommend 4-6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Fine lines and general rejuvenation usually need 3-4 treatments.
Who Should Skip Microneedling
While most people are suitable candidates, some situations require caution. If you have active acne, an infection, or inflamed skin, those issues need addressing first.
Certain skin conditions like eczema or rosacea need careful assessment. Sometimes microneedling helps, but timing matters.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Wait until afterwards. If you’ve taken isotretinoin for acne within the last six months, your skin needs more recovery time before starting microneedling.
Anyone with bleeding disorders or taking blood-thinning medications should speak with their doctor first.
